Daryl Dixon seems headed to a romance with Carol on “The Walking Dead,” but the zombie hunter was almost gay.
Despite the show never going there with Daryl, actor Norman Reedus said it was an option early on for series co-creator Frank Darabont.
"There was a time on the show where Frank was going to have me be gay, but he won't admit it," Reedus told the Mirror Online. “If he admits it's like he'll kill you. He referred to it as ‘prison gay,’ and I didn't know what that meant.”
Rumors have circulated about Daryl’s sexuality for years as the hunter has never been paired up — Beth was killed off too soon for anything to happen — but his bromance with Rick has always stayed platonic.
In 2015, Reedus addressed similar rumors on “Conan.”
“If that’s the story they gave me, I would rock that story. I’m not afraid.”
That storyline seems to be on hold, however, as Daryl’s reunion with Carol (Melissa McBride) has sparked renewed interest in their possible romance.
