In "The Walking Dead" Season 5 finale, viewers finally met who The Wolves are. And in a post-credit scene, a member of the booby trap-loving group saw photos of Alexandria, which seemingly set up an impending battle between them and the residents of the gated community.
However, showrunner Scott M. Gimple implied that The Wolves may not be biggest threat that Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his group could be facing in Season 6.
On Sunday night's "Talking Dead," host Chris Hardwick read a note from Gimple that teased what viewers can expect from the upcoming installment. The note read as follows:
"For a good while now, humans have been the bigger threat. At the start of our next season, that will change. I said the show reinvents itself every eight episodes, and we're doing it again, friendos. Now that these characters know they have what it takes to survive, what are they going to do with that power? How will they choose to live? Beyond answering those questions, we're currently putting into motion some of our most ambitious stuff yet, and things are going to get very big, loud and scary."
While Gimple didn't exactly name what the bigger threat is, his fellow executive producer Gale Anne Hurd thinks that he's referring to walkers.
"I think we have a world that's overrun with walkers. We saw that in the beginning with the walker that Rick had to take on in the season finale. I think that could be it," Hurd told The Hollywood Reporter.
"We've seen that Alexandria can be breached, it is not longer the safe zone it was. All of that will come to bear on our core characters but now the citizens of Alexandria as well," she added during an interview with Deadline.
Aside from the impending threat from The Wolves, viewers can also expect a change of dynamic inside Alexandria, not only due to the recent deaths of Pete (Corey Brill) and Reg (Steve Coulter) but also because of the arrival of Morgan (Lennie James), who seemed to be surprised seeing Rick ending Pete's life.
"Morgan's story will be interesting because he was clearly a homicidal maniac when we saw him in 'Clear,' and now he's transformed into this Zen warrior and someone who is able to survive, who is able to take on multiple people with his fighting staff, but he's not someone who really wants to have to kill anyone," Hurd told THR. "When he encounters Rick, it looks to him like Rick just killed another human being in cold blood, execution style. There could be some interesting encounters given how their roles have reversed."
"The Walking Dead" is expected to return for its Season 6 in October.
