Who is the new bad guy on The Walking Dead? For the moment, it looks like it may be Rick Grimes himself. Rick and the gang settled in to Alexandria in last nights episode, but the paranoia has begun to slip towards more evil plotting on Rick’s behalf. Alexandria is making it, although it may seem a little surprising at times, but Rick already has designs on taking control of the town if it becomes apparent the denizens are too soft. However, it could very well be that this is the reason why Rick was recruited to begin with.
Deanna was very quick to give Rick, and Michonne, positions of authority in the settlement, but does her assignment end with making Rick the local cop, or is she more interested in the savagery of the group. Fans of the comics know where I’m going with this.
Let’s face it, The Walking Dead is not going to turn into “Alexandria”, a new prime time soap. Alexandria definitely harbors a secret, and that secret will no doubt tie back to the real reason Rick and the others were recruited to begin with.

In the comics, Alexandria is but one of several settlements that are ‘controlled’ through a protection scheme by the violent and maniacal Neegan, the leader of a group called The Saviors. The Saviors protect the settlements from the walkers and in exchange demand tributes.
Possibly, Alexandria is tired of paying tributes. They want their perfect community to go on without a post-apocalyptic gangster to menace them, but they are too soft to make a stand. Enter Rick Grimes. How Alexandria became aware of Rick and his group is a bit of a stretch, but if you’re looking for a team to stand up to a vile gangster like Neegan, well, you’ve found the right people.
The question is, if this is indeed where things are going, how would Rick’s ability to protect the town interface with his growing desire to take control. Could Alexandria’s need lead up to Rick and the rest becoming an occupying force all their own, and if so would they in turn face resistance from within? Stay tuned to The Walking Dead to find out.
