We know someone big is dying during The Walking Dead Season 6, and there’s mounting evidence the unfortunate soul who will perish is Glenn Rhee, played by Steven Yeun. If Glenn dies, can his “wife” Maggie Greene handle it? We’re not so sure.
To recap, in the comics, Glenn is killed by mega-villain Negan, who beats the former pizza delivery guy to death with his barbed-wire bat named Lucille. While the series doesn’t always follow the comics exactly, there’s increased speculation this storyline will translate to the small screen.
In the event that Negan does show up this season and kill Glenn, ET Online asked Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie, if her on-screen counterpart would be able to withstand another crushing blow so soon after losing her father, Hershel Greene and sister, Beth Greene. “We have to keep going no matter what.
I think what's happened is this sense that you aren't just living for yourself anymore — you're living for the people around you,” Lauren explains. “I don’t think she thought she could survive it after she lost Beth, but something higher — her God of whatever demonization — is just something that keeps her going and I think that's the human desire to survive.”
“But I really hope we don’t have to answer that question this year,” Lauren adds.
Still, the actress admits to worrying about Glenn since she knows what happens to him in the comics and he’s already escaped death multiple times on the show. Calling it “so stressful,” the 33-year-old continues, “We each have to continue to take risks. That's a big theme for Maggie and Glenn as a couple and Maggie and Glenn individually this year: realizing that sometimes you can't do everything you want to do, and you can't be as impulsive or risk-taking.
But in the same token, who's going to get this done and who's the best person for this job? Glenn has proven himself to be one of their greatest strengths, but there's so many things that happen this year and there's so many huge sweeps and changes.”
Maggie has proven she’s tough as nails, but if anything, Lauren’s answer just bolsters the theory Glenn’s time has run out. BRB, we’re getting our Glenn Rhee prayer circle ready...
