Last week, AMC unveiled the first key art for the upcoming installment of the hit zombie drama. The banner, which was released on June 23, also serves as the official poster for the show's return to San Diego Comic-Con next month. The key art hints at a potential showdown between Rick and Morgan, which Lincoln confirmed at the 2015 Saturn Awards on Thursday, June 25.
"There will be tension between those two characters definitely," the 41-year-old British actor told Collider.
While Lincoln declined to further comment on that story arc to avoid spilling potential spoilers, friction between the two characters isn't really surprising after Morgan witnessed his long lost friend, Rick, execute Pete (Corey Brill) in the season 5 finale.
"Morgan's story will be interesting because he was clearly a homicidal maniac when we saw him in 'Clear,' and now he's transformed into this Zen warrior and someone who is able to survive, who is able to take on multiple people with his fighting staff, but he's not someone who really wants to have to kill anyone," series executive producer Gale Anne Hurd told The Hollywood Reporter in March. "When he encounters Rick, it looks to him like Rick just killed another human being in cold blood, execution style. There could be some interesting encounters given how their roles have reversed."
As what fans can expect from the upcoming season, Rick told Collider: "I think the writing and the story is getting stronger and stronger. I'm thrilled. I thought that last season Rick's journey was some of the finest and most complex that I've had to attempt. Scott and the writers team are just magnificent. As long as they keep pushing us in the direction they're doing I think we're going to open up the world in a way we've never ever experienced before."
Without giving any explanation, Lincoln added that he's "so excited for episodes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6."
"The Walking Dead" season 6 premieres in October on AMC.
