Daryl Dixon(Norman Reedus) may be the most popular character on The Walking Dead, but Negan is the most popular character yet to be on The Walking Dead. Not that Negan is beloved, he's just dynamic. And maybe it shouldn't be a surprise that a lot of fans think the two characters will meet in a bad way at some point in the future.
TWD just got to Alexandria in Season 5, so we're around the Issues 70-75 zone in the comic. We've speculated that Season 5 might end with content around Issue 78, but that's just a guess. Either way, Negan does not arrive in the comic until Issue 100. They could bring him in earlier, but they don't need to and there's a lot of ground that they may want to lay down first. When Negan does first appear in Issue 100, he punishes Rick's group for taking on The Saviors by choosing someone in the group to bash with his baseball bat, named Lucille.
Some fans who don't think Negan will give Daryl the Glenn treatment instead think he could be the new Dwight. That's not too likely either, since there's probably someone out there who will be a perfectly good Dwight. If we can have Aaron, Eric, Jessie, Pete, Gabriel, etc., arrive in close versions to themselves on TV, we don't need to be treating Dwight like he can just be absorbed into Daryl's role.
There's also the idea that none of this may have been decided yet, even by Kirkman and Scott Gimple. They may want to stick to the Glenn/Negan death because it's so iconic and opens so many new doors, or they may go a different way, and maybe that's something they're still discussing as they currently plan Season 6 and think about what to save for Season 7 and beyond.
Do you think Negan will kill Glenn, Daryl or ... someone else from our group? And when do you see this playing out? We've been going with Season 6 finale/Season 7, but it's all guesswork.
